Polynesian Tattoo Designs
You need to understand that there are two distinct styles when is comes to Polynesian tattoo designs. The first of these is called Etua. Etua have a strong spiritual and religious meaning to them. They are also magical symbols offering protection from the gods . While the other style Enata can be described as natural designs which describe the person, there identity and status. This includes their social level, island of origin, occupation and history.
Symbols within Polynesian tattoo designs and their meaning are as follows -
Shark teeth - Sharks' teeth tattoos are for protection.
Turtles - A turtle symbol represents long life and fertility.
Shells - Shells are a symbol of prosperity to the Polynesian people and it is possible that they were used as the earliest form of currency.
Sharks - The shark itself is seen as sacred. Polynesian shark tattoos are used as a symbol of protection from threats.
Gecko - It is believed that the gecko has powers of a supernatural nature and are feared but also held in awe by the Polynesians. It is also believed that if a green gecko laughs then it is an awful omen of bad fortune and illness.
Tiki - The god Tiki is often shown with eyes closed. This is because Tiki is able to smell trouble before it is seen.

Know where I found Polynesian Tattoo designs that exactly what my customers are searching for. I need not to whirl my my mind over and over again for finding Maori tattoos.
I don't know how my Mets pen ended up in my vacuum – but RIP. I hope it's not an omen.
There is no such thing as a yellow cat unless you mean a ginger cat or a caramel tone in which case it could be an Abyssinian breed which has dark tipped very short fur. Cats can be protectors and familiars.
An omen (also called portent or presage) is a phenomenon that is believed to foretell the future, often signifying the advent of change. Omens may be considered "good" or "bad", but the term is more often used in a foreboding sense, as with the word "ominous".

hmm very interesting
Nothing about this article explains about Maori “tattoo” or TaMoko which is the what I think you must be refering to. Maori are in New Zealand and we are a part of the Polynesian Islands but our sacret designs are different to say Tonga, Samoa, and others! don’t lump our cultures together we are different with different customs etc. this article may describe other Polynesian tattoo styles but not Maori.
If anyone really wants a TaMoko then visit a real TaMoko artist. we know our designs and how to group them together, unlike foriegn tattoo artists around the world that pretend to know our traditional art form and they cut and paste designs to form what they claim as Maori Tattoo.
Let me tell anyone that reads this! any Properly trained TaMoko artist can and will recognize if your ink work is authentically Maori. Maori style designs cut and pasted or placed in a design where ever a tattooist thinks looks good is easy for us to spot. Our designs are sacret to us and they have there specific use.
If you want wear fake Maori tattoo done by a Tattoist fine. we know the difference and will tell you if u come to New Zealand. Otherwise respect the artform and visit a Real Tamoko artist and feel the mana and pride that others do from recieving the full experience that Tamoko provides before, during and after application.
