Tattoo Of The Maori Tiki Symbol, Disrespectful For Someone Not Maori?

I am thinking of getting a tattoo of the Tiki.
I am not Maori, Polynesian or from NZ, but I have read quite a lot of the varying meanings of the symbol and admire it.
Would this be disrespectful, or non-sense for me to use this symbol?

not at all, in fact i think its just the opposite. wanting their symbol because you respect its meaning in their culture is a great sign of respect. i hope you love it when its all done!!
yes, it would be considered disrespectful to them. just about every native that has something symbolic to them finds it disrespectful when an outsider takes it or uses it for their own good.
I don’t mean this in offense to anyone, in any racist way, its just an example, and i am just assuming you are white just for the effect of my example-but lets just assume you are caucasian, and you take an african american symbol and tattoo it on yourself. do you think an african american would find that disrespectful?? or do you think they would take it as a compliment???
……..i think you have your answer…..
It’s your body. If you like the tattoo then get it. Your not being disrespectful because you, yourself admires the symbol.
=]
Yes it is disrespectful, go to http://www.watch-movies.net/movies/ancie…
they have a whole section on it
They say not to use it
You can get any symbol you want. Just think of how many non-Chinese people have Chinese symbols tattooed on them.

I’m studying sacrificial deposits made by people of a lo-tech culture in Sweden 3000 years ago, largely in wetlands. This was long before any word relevant to the area was written. The objects were mainly recovered during the decades to either side of 1900. Yesterday while trawling through back issues of the Journal of Wetland Archaeology I came across a really cool paper on a similar theme. It’s about wetland deposits made by lo-tech people and excavated during the 20th century. But in this case the stuff was still being deposited in the 19th century AD, the objects are perfectly preserved, and the ethnic group in question is still around with an unbroken oral tradition. People came to New Zealand only in about 1280 from Polynesia. On the islands they eventually developed Maori culture. It was one of the last areas of the planet’s land mass to be colonised by people, and also one of the last to be invaded by Europeans in turn. This happened at a time when colonial genocide was no…

And people wonder why jews are hated.I bet not one of her family ever served our country with honor in our wars. Most jews during vietnam claimed college deferment and went to columbia univ. etc to avoid service.I guess others have to do the fighting as usual, its the irish and the southern christian whites.THIS is not fair. She is a typical, latte drinking, gated community living, limosuine driving, bidet using jewish new york ,arrogant, condescending, non serving military family jerk.
get it on the left for sure, one more thing to remember is it is bad luck and supposivley a sign of devil worship if your arm band tattoo connects all the way around the arm.

First and foremost, the pentacle and pentagram. The one is the circle and the one is the star, but most people think it's two different things and that it is evil. It represents the universe, the elements and basically, life. Satanists have perverted it, but the christians once used it, too. The five wounds of christ. An ankh would work too, since the ankh represents the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, plus eternity. Just be aware of what people are going to interpret these symbols as. You might get called a satanist.
if there is a path then maybe lighting it would be good.
of if there is certain features like a waterfall or statue or a wall u can cast shadows on.
or put them at varied heights or distances to give a feeling.
i am not sure if they need certain safety precautions? like heat to touch from children or open flames from wind/dry brush.
The one i got couldn't go under trees because it was solar powered and wouldn't recharge.
i wonder if one could go up in a tree. or under a bush. neat shadows or perspectives maybe.
could maybe keep them in one arrangement for a week and then try another.
also bugs like them so maybe not next to vegetable/susceptible flowers. or maybe not next to a place where u sit. but then again maybe u Do want light where u sit or next to a barbeque.
